Free Choice Oral Book Report

Below is a format of what I will be looking for when students give their presentations on June 9th & June 10th. I have been over this with the class 3-4 times now and they were assigned this report about 3 weeks ago. This is a project that needs to be done at home.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Free Choice Book Report

There are no kids on the planet who are better presenters than C-1’s fifth graders. . . That means YOU! You’ve been doing fabulous reports and presentations for YEARS now. As a special reward for your wonderfulness, your final book report/project for this year can be on any book you choose, 100 pages or more! Here’s your chance to choose a genre’ you really love! Historical Fiction? Science Fiction? Non-Fiction? Realistic Fiction? Humor? Mystery? Biography? Fantasy? Poetry? Mythology? Anything!

You already know what needs to be included in a book report presentation. Here are the only guidelines you’ll need:
 FIND A BOOK AND START READING.
 Make your presentation at least 2 - 3 minutes long.
 Have it MEMORIZED. (Brief note cards are OK, but don’t just “read.”)
 Practice, practice, practice until it feels comfortable and smooth.
 Include “Something Special” in your report. (See below.)

Something Special
Anything you come up with would be fine, but here are some suggestions:

 Make a mobile with events, characters, and settings from your book.
 Create a poster that makes others want to read your book.
 Design a diorama.
 Come in costume as a character from your book.
 Make a puppet.
 Create a collage of images that represent your book.
 Paint a scene or setting.
 Build a model scene or setting.
 Create a sculpture.
 Try paper mache’.
 Make a pop up book.
 Design an alternate book cover.
 Make your presentation in PowerPoint form.
 Use Publisher or Word to create fliers or handouts about your book.
 Film your presentation in video format. Introduce it to us, and show it!
 Bring artifacts or objects important in your book.
 Create a timeline of events.

Family Fun Night!!!

Family Fun Night is just around the corner! This is a great time because it's an evening full of games, face painting, DJ dancing, auction's, classroom basket's, ice cream and most importantly FAMILY FUN!

Our class theme is "MYSTERY." This was a great idea that the class came up with because ANYTHING can go in the basket, but it needs to be wrapped. The class will be coming up with a list of ideas to go home on Monday.

Current Photo's

Without volunteer's, our class wouldn't be so great! Enjoy the photo's!

Valentine's Party & Science Fair

5th Grade FOREST Studies Trip :0)

The fifth grade students will be taking TWO field trips to the Santiam State Forest. The first will be TUESDAY, MARCH 31ST. We will be going to the Santiam State Forest Horse Camp in Gates. We will not be riding horses. (If you’d like to plan ahead, the second trip will be TUESDAY, MAY 26th). It will be to Santiam State Forest Shellburg Falls in Lyons. A separate permission letter will come to you in the spring for that trip. On each trip, the buses will depart at 9:15 A.M. and return at 2:00 P.M.

Because of a grant from the Oregon Forest Resources Institute, there is NO COST to students or chaperones.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch and appropriate clothing for the weather. RUBBER BOOTS MAY BE A GOOD IDEA. Students may also bring a book, a game boy, headphones, etc. If these items are lost, Forest Ridge is not responsible.

We will need chaperones. School district policy requires all chaperones to have a criminal history background check completed and approved (takes 3-4 weeks) before attending. If you are interested and have completed the form, please indicate below. If you have not completed a form and would like to go on a future trip please ask at the office for a form and turn it in soon so you will be able to attend our next trip.

Fifth Grade Read-In!

Fifth Grade Read-In!

Mrs. Koenig’s fifth graders are going to celebrate Read Across America day on Monday, March 2nd. We will be having an ALL-AFTERNOON READ-IN! The kids will get to choose their own reading material for the afternoon. To make this even MORE fun, kids are allowed to bring a comfy thing like a pillow or blanket, and munch on healthful snacks that they bring from home. If you’d like to send an item for our snack table, that would be great. I have had many wonderful read-ins with classes in previous years, and I’m sure this one will be great as well! Please contact me if you have any questions.
